photoshopped models may need disclaimer in france
france is considering legislation that would require advertisers to include disclaimers on any photoshopped images of models. the idea is to get people to realize that humans should look like humans rather than flawless aliens with perfect skin and no cellulite.
photoshopped ads that don’t run a disclaimer will be fined big time.
i’m all for it. i think it’s bogus and gross to manipulate images in order to manipulate people’s conception of self and the bounds of human beauty. and it’s just so damn phony and completely devoid of goodness.
the one problem is this: say the government charges an ad for being photoshopped. the advertiser says, “no, zees woman ees agg-chu-aLEE zees byoo-tee-FAL!” then they have to bring the model out, strip her to her undergarments and meticulously look her over, presumably by several investigators judging if she’s actually that good looking. “Look at this gross mole!” “What’s this single, rogue hair doing here?” “There’s no way you’re actually that attractive. See?” things could get uncomfortable.
